Getting Started for Retail Jewellers
Register as a BIS jeweller, get your stock hallmarked, verify HUIDs, and display compliance in your shop.

Why it matters
Selling non-hallmarked gold jewellery is illegal in districts covered by the mandatory hallmarking order — penalties include fines and imprisonment.
Consumers increasingly demand hallmarked jewellery with verifiable HUID codes. Compliance builds customer confidence and repeat business.
BIS conducts surprise inspections and market surveillance — registered jewellers with proper records face no disruption.
What you need before you start
BIS registration as a jeweller on manakonline.in (mandatory for selling hallmarked gold)
Business premises in a district covered by the mandatory hallmarking order
GST registration and PAN card for your business entity
Relationship with one or more BIS-recognized AHCs for ongoing hallmarking
Step-by-step process
Register on manakonline.in
Apply for BIS jeweller registration. Upload your PAN, GST certificate, address proof, and shop photographs. Registration is typically processed within 7–10 working days.
Select an Assaying & Hallmarking Centre
Choose a BIS-recognized AHC near your location. Varsha Bullion operates two centres in Mumbai with fast turnaround times for retail jewellers.
Submit your stock for hallmarking
Bring un-hallmarked gold jewellery stock (with invoices) to your chosen AHC. Each article is tested, and those meeting purity standards receive a HUID and hallmark stamp.
Verify HUIDs before selling
Use the BIS Care app or the BIS website to verify that each HUID on your stock is active and correctly linked. This protects you from counterfeit hallmarks.
Display compliance and educate customers
Display your BIS registration certificate in your shop. Train staff to explain hallmarks and HUID verification to customers — this builds trust and differentiates your business.
