BIS-Prescribed Fee Structure
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) prescribes the maximum hallmarking charges that authorized hallmarking centres may levy. These rates are standardized across India to ensure uniformity and consumer protection.
Hallmarking charges are applied per article — regardless of the weight or value of the jewellery piece. GST at 18% is applicable on all hallmarking charges.

What's Included in the Hallmarking Charge
The standard per-article hallmarking charge covers the complete hallmarking process from purity testing through to HUID assignment and documentation.
XRF Purity Testing
Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry to determine the precise elemental composition and fineness of the article.
BIS Hallmark Stamping
Physical stamping of the BIS logo and fineness grade on the article, confirming it meets declared purity standards.
HUID Assignment & Engraving
Unique six-character HUID assigned via the BIS portal and laser-engraved on the article for traceability.
Job Sheet & Documentation
Complete job sheet documenting article details, test results, and hallmarking information for your records.
Quality Check
Final inspection to verify hallmark clarity, HUID legibility, and accuracy before the article is released.

BIS prescribes a maximum charge of Rs 45 per article for gold hallmarking, exclusive of GST. With 18% GST, the effective charge comes to approximately Rs 53 per article. Actual charges may vary slightly between hallmarking centres.
Yes. BIS prescribes a maximum charge of Rs 30 per article for silver hallmarking, exclusive of GST. With 18% GST, the effective charge is approximately Rs 35 per article.
There is no minimum lot size — you can submit even a single article for hallmarking. However, charges are applied per article, and a minimum consignment charge may apply for very small lots. Contact the hallmarking centre for specifics.
Additional charges may apply for fire assay testing (when required for dispute resolution or referee-grade analysis) and rush or priority processing. XRF testing, BIS hallmark stamping, HUID assignment, and standard documentation are included in the base hallmarking charge.
Payment is made at the time of article submission. A receipt is provided for every transaction. Most hallmarking centres accept cash, UPI, and bank transfers.
